How to Make a Graph on
Google Docs
Create graphs and charts directly in Google Docs by inserting data from Google Sheets. This guide shows you how to generate professional-looking graphs that update automatically with changes in your data.
Open Google Docs – Head over to docs.google.com and open the document where you want to add a graph.
Click on “Insert” – In the top menu bar, click “Insert” to open the dropdown options.
Hover Over “Chart” – In the dropdown, hover your mouse over “Chart”. You’ll see multiple graph options like Bar, Column, Line, and Pie.
Choose the Type of Graph – Select the graph type you want to insert (e.g., Bar chart). A sample chart will be added to your doc.
Click on “Linked Chart Options” – Under the graph, click the drop-down arrow and select “Open source”. This will open a linked Google Sheets file.
Edit the Data in Google Sheets – In the linked spreadsheet, update the chart data with your own numbers and labels.
Update the Chart in Docs – Go back to your Google Docs file, and click the “Update” button on the chart. Your graph will refresh with the new data.
Done – Your custom graph is now fully added and updated in your document — perfect for reports, assignments, or presentations.
