How to Do a Block Quote in
Google Docs

Create block quotes in Google Docs by adjusting the indentation and font style to highlight important excerpts. This demo will guide you through the steps to format your quotes professionally.

  1. Open Google Docs – Go to docs.google.com and open the document where you want to add the block quote.

  2. Highlight the Text – Select the text you want to format as a block quote. This could be a quote or excerpt from another source.

  3. Click on “Format” – In the top menu, click on “Format” to open the formatting options.

  4. Select “Align & Indent” – In the dropdown menu, hover over “Align & Indent”, and then select “Indentation options”.

  5. Choose “Special Indent” – In the pop-up window, under “Special indent”, choose “First line” and set the indentation to 0.5 inches (or more if you prefer).

  6. Apply the Indentation – Click “Apply” to add the indentation to your selected text. This will give the block quote a distinct, indented look.

  7. Adjust the Text Style (Optional) – You can also make the text italic or change the font style to differentiate the block quote from the rest of the text.

  8. Done – Your block quote is now properly formatted! It’s clearly separated and highlighted for emphasis, perfect for citations or important quotes.
