How to Voice Type on
Google Docs
Dictate text in Google Docs by using the voice typing tool. This interactive guide will show you how to activate voice typing, allowing you to speak directly into the document without typing.
Open Google Docs – Go to docs.google.com and open a new or existing document.
Use Google Chrome – Voice typing only works properly on Google Chrome, so make sure you're using that browser.
Click on “Tools” – From the top menu bar, click on “Tools” to open a dropdown menu.
Select “Voice typing…” – Click on “Voice typing…” from the dropdown. A microphone icon will appear on the left side of your document.
Set Language (Optional) –
Click the dropdown above the mic icon to choose your preferred language.
Make sure the correct language is selected for better accuracy.
Click the Microphone Icon –
When you're ready to speak, click the microphone icon.
It will turn red, indicating that it’s now listening.
Start Speaking Clearly – Speak naturally and clearly into your mic. Google Docs will start typing your words in real time.
Click the Mic Again to Stop – Once done, click the microphone icon again to stop voice typing. Your spoken words are now typed into your doc.
