How to Do Exponents in
Google Docs
Insert exponents in your Google Docs document for scientific writing or mathematical formulas. This demo shows you how to use the Superscript tool or shortcuts to create exponents easily.
Open Google Docs – Go to docs.google.com and open the document where you want to add exponents.
Place the Cursor – Click at the position in your document where you want the exponent to appear.
Go to “Insert” Menu – In the top toolbar, click on “Insert”.
Select “Equation” – From the dropdown, select “Equation”. A new equation toolbar will appear below the main toolbar.
Choose the Exponent Symbol –
In the equation toolbar, click the “x²” button (it’s the exponent button).
Alternatively, you can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + . (period) or Cmd + . (on Mac) to add an exponent.
Enter the Base Number – After clicking “x²”, type the base number (for example, 2 for 2²).
Enter the Exponent –
Type the exponent after the base number (for example, type 2 to get 2²).
You can adjust it for more complex exponents by adding numbers or variables.
Done – Your exponent is now added to the document. You can continue typing normally after the exponent.
