How to Stop Suggesting
on Google Docs

Turn off suggesting mode in Google Docs when you're ready to start directly editing your document. Learn how to switch from suggesting to editing mode so you can make changes without tracking suggestions.

  1. Open Google Docs – Go to docs.google.com and open the document where you want to stop suggesting.

  2. Check Your Current Mode – Look at the top-right corner of the screen. If you see “Suggesting”, you are in Suggestion mode.

  3. Click on the Editing Mode Dropdown – Click on the dropdown menu next to “Suggesting” in the top-right corner of the screen.

  4. Switch to Editing Mode – From the dropdown, select “Editing”. This will switch you out of Suggestion mode and back to normal editing.

  5. Check Your Status – After switching, the text should change from “Suggesting” to “Editing”, indicating you are no longer suggesting changes.

  6. Apply to All Docs (Optional) – If you want to avoid suggesting mode in the future, ensure that you always check your mode before making edits. You can manually switch to “Editing” in any new document.

  7. Review Permissions (Optional) – If you’re still seeing suggestions and it’s not your intention, make sure that you have Edit access to the document. You may be in Comment or View mode, which could limit editing.

  8. Done – Now you're in Editing mode, and all your changes will be applied directly without suggestions!
