How to Make a Grid in Figma
This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to create a layout grid in Figma. Follow these steps to set up a grid that can help you align and organize your design elements effectively.
Open Your Figma File – Launch Figma and open the design file where you want to add a grid.
Select a Frame – Click on the frame (artboard) where you want the grid to appear. Grids can only be applied to frames, not individual elements.

Click the “+” Icon – Click the “+” button to add a new layout grid to your selected frame.
Choose Grid Type – Click on the dropdown next to “Grid” and select from:
Grid – For square-based grids
Columns – For vertical layouts
Rows – For horizontal layouts
Customize Grid Settings – Adjust options like count, margin, gutter, and color to fit your design needs.
Toggle Visibility – Use the eye icon next to “Layout grid” to show or hide the grid as needed.
Done – Your grid is now applied and ready to guide your layout design.
