Learn how to create a hanging indent in Google Docs to format your bibliography or reference list. This style allows the first line of each entry to be flush left while subsequent lines are indented.

  1. Open your Google Docs document and highlight the text where you want to apply the hanging indent.

  2. Go to the "Format" menu at the top, and from the dropdown, select "Align & Indent".

  3. Choose "Indentation options" from the submenu.

  4. In the "Indentation options" window, under "Special indent," select "Hanging" from the dropdown menu.

  5. Enter the measurement for the indent, such as 0.5 inches, in the field next to the dropdown.

  6. Click "Apply" to apply the hanging indent to your selected text. The first line of the paragraph will stay aligned with the left margin, and subsequent lines will be indented.
