This guide will help you navigate the process of chatting within the Figma interface. Follow these steps to initiate and participate in conversations while working on your design projects.

  1. Open a Figma File – Launch any project where you and others are collaborating.

  2. Ensure You're in the Same File – Real-time chat works only when multiple users are in the same file.

  3. Locate Profile Icons on Top-Right – Check if collaborators are present (their avatars will show).

  4. Click on the Avatar – You’ll see a small cursor with their name moving live on the canvas.

  5. Use Slack or Comments – Figma doesn’t have built-in live chat, but you can:

    • Use the Comment (💬) tool to leave messages.

    • Integrate Figma with Slack to sync and chat about changes.

  6. @Mention Collaborators in Comments – They'll get notified and can reply directly.

  7. Use Voice/Video via FigJam or External Tools – For richer communication, try FigJam (whiteboard) or apps like Zoom.
