How to Add Icons in Figma
This guide will walk you through the steps to add icons in Figma using the main menu and relevant actions within the application. Each step is precisely outlined to ensure a seamless experience.
Open Your Figma File – Go to figma.com, log in, and open the design file where you want to add the image.
Click on the “Place Image” Option – On the top toolbar, click on the “Place image” icon (or go to the menu:
File
→Place image
), or just press Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + K.Choose an Image File – A file picker will open. Select the image from your computer (supports .jpg, .png, .gif, .svg, etc.).
Click to Drop the Image – After selecting the image, your cursor will change. Click anywhere on the canvas to place it, or click and drag to resize while placing.
Drag & Resize – Use the corners or edges to resize the image as needed. Hold Shift while dragging to keep the image's proportions.
Fit Inside Frames or Shapes (Optional) – If you want the image inside a shape or frame:
Select the shape, then the image.
Use Right Click → Use as Mask to crop it inside the shape.
Adjust Settings – Use the right panel to adjust fill, opacity, blending mode, etc., for better control over how the image looks in your design.
Done – Your image is now added to the design. You can move, layer, or style it however you want.
